Welcome to the Washington Elementary School home page. Washington Elementary School, located at the corner of President and Bridle Lane in Wheaton, serves about 400 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. We serve students from parts of Wheaton and Carol Stream. Our purpose, in collaboration with parents and our community, is to bring the joy of learning to each child by creating a safe school environment where students are challenged and actively engaged as learners, equipped with the skills and tools to pursuer their own purpose and goals now and in the future, guided in developing sound character, and self confident enough to take risks in aiming to fulfill their potential.

Our entire staff is dedicated to increased student achievement for all students and to meet that goal students are provided with a high quality educational experience focusing on the total child. In addition to their classroom experiences our students in kindergarten through fifth grade participate daily in a physical education program. Students in first through fifth grade also receive instruction in vocal music and art each week. Washington school offers many opportunities for students. Starting in third grade students can participate in our chorus program. This program meets once a week outside of the school day. Students in chorus perform during our winter program as well as doing a spring concert. Fourth grade students can elect to participate in orchestra and fifth grade students can participate in band. Both of these music groups also perform throughout the school year. Our Library Learning Center (LLC) offers students a place to study, check out book, and conduct research. Students access the LLC during whole class times, with small study groups, and as individuals. Students also access computers both in their classrooms and in the LLC in order to extend and support learning.

Washington Elementary School also has an active Parent Teacher Association ( PTA). This group works tirelessly to support the work of the school. Through the PTA students are able to access programs such as our weekly chess club, Lunch and Learn Language (Spanish and French), cultural arts assemblies, and Junior Great Books. Our PTA also provides many activities for the whole family including an Ice Cream Social at the start of the year, Spirit Nights throughout the year, a Pancake Breakfast in January, and a Fun Fair in late February or early March. The PTA most recently supported the school as we raised money to purchase and install new, state of the art playground equipment.
